Heart Health Month

February is National Heart Month. Everyone knows that being more active is beneficial for heart health. Getting out into fresh air and nature also has extra benefits. Here in Ceredigion, there are lots of opportunities for everyone to get out and about, be more active and look after their physical and mental health.

For the rest of this month, Ceredigion County Council will be sharing some walk ideas which will feature something for everyone.  These will start with shorter, high quality, surfaced routes with minimal inclines, suitable for wheelchair users and those who choose a less challenging walk.  Later, there will be longer routes with natural surfaces, steeper inclines and some navigational challenges.

Whichever routes you choose, you’ll be sure to see fantastic views, be surrounded by nature and enjoy some heart health boosting exercise.

Before setting out on any walk, be sure to check predicted weather and wear sturdy footwear and appropriate clothing. Always carry water. Snacks and suncream may also be needed. Most routes cross privately owned land. Always follow the Countryside Code, keeping dogs under close control and cleaning up after them. Leave gates as you find them, keep to the path, leave no litter and give livestock and wildlife plenty of space.

These opportunities are available across the county. There are many others. Some further ideas can be seen here Walks and Rides - Ceredigion County Council

In support of National Heart Health Month, below are a selection of shorter walks suitable for everyone.

These paths are surfaced to a high standard and have no, or very gentle, inclines. This makes them suitable for wheelchair users, those using walking aids, pushchairs and anyone wanting a gentle walk or just starting out on a heart health journey.

What they also have to offer are amazing scenery, access to nature and the all-important physical and mental wellbeing benefits.

This is a selection of walks between 3 and 4 miles long.

They are on natural surfaces which are uneven and have steeper, longer inclines. They take path users further into open countryside and you may need a map.

As long as you have sturdy footwear, they’re all a great way to fit in more movement and exercise and that can only be good news for your heart.
