Short Breaks
Being a carer can be emotionally and physically tiring. Many carers don't think enough about their wellbeing and may suffer from stress as a result.
Taking a break from caring is essential, even if it's only for a few hours.
There are many ways you can take a break from caring, from a few hours to a few days, alone or with others. Only you will know what is best for you.
Some examples of breaks could include:
- sitting in your garden or reading a book
- going to the gym or going shopping for a day or afternoon
- visiting friends or family overnight or for a weekend
- taking part in group activities for carers
For further information and advice please see the Gofalwyr Ceredigion Carers page.
Respite Care
Respite care is offered to our customers for a designated period of time (dependent on level of need) in an appropriate setting or via a direct payment. The aim is to provide a period of rest for the individual, and their carer, who may be finding it difficult to maintain their full independence at home, or in their care setting.
Respite is provided in different ways, such as in a residential setting, via Direct payments or simply through direct support. The identified need/hours will be identified via a care and support plan and the social worker will support with actioning this need.
DASH away weekend
Ceredigion County Council commission DASH, a local third sector provider, to facilitate a residential Short Break provision for children with disabilities and their families. DASH support children at Ty Glyn, a hired purpose-built bungalow near Aberaeron. DASH are registered with CIW as a children’s home at this venue. DASH staff and the Social Worker from disabilities team coordinate weekends and ensure that CIW requirements are adhered to.
