Electric Vehicle Charging in Ceredigion
Ceredigion County Council has adopted an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) Strategy and Action Plan which seeks to support Net Zero Carbon targets associated with transport and travel. A significant growth in demand for public and private Electric Vehicle (EV) charge-points is forecast during the next ten years as the sales of EVs increases. A range of public, private and community-based organisations must all play a part in meeting this growth in demand.
Ceredigion County Council has partnered with Silverstone Green Energy Limited as its Charge-point Operator and begun to install EV charge-points in a number of its public Pay and Display off-street car parks for use by residents and visitors to Ceredigion. The new charge-points form part of the Dragon Charging Network.
Locations of EV charge-points
The County Council is completing first phases of charge-point installation with further locations to follow when funding becomes available. The EV charge-points are in centrally-located car parks to allow users to visit local businesses and attractions whilst charging their cars. There is also a growing number of publicly-available EV charge-points funded by other public, private and voluntary/ third sector organisations. Visit the Zap Map website to view available EV charge-points in Ceredigion.
Types of charge-posts available
All Ceredigion County Council-installed ‘Fast’ public EV charge-post sockets require connection of a Type 2 charging cable. It is the responsibility of the user to provide this. ‘Fast’ chargers are capable of charging an electric vehicle within 3 to 4 hours dependent on the type and number of vehicles plugged in.
‘Rapid’ charge-points are also being installed in some car parks including Cwmins. Lampeter and Greenfield Square, Cardigan public car parks.
Use of EV Chargepoints
Information on how to use the charge-points is available on the Dragon Charging Network website, via the Dragon Charging App or at the charge-points themselves.
Please remember that if you wish to charge your EV in one of the County Council’s off-street car parks, you must also pay the appropriate fee for parking in that car park during the hours in which these fees apply. Visit our Parking & Civil Parking Enforcement page for car park information.
We request that you always park safely and responsibly, within the designated bays and remember to remove your car once charging is completed so that others may use the charge-point after you.
