Penweddig wins first prize in the UK Youth Enterprise Competition
There were celebrations at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Penweddig as a result of winning first place throughout the whole of the UK among the 13 finalists in a Young Enterprise business development competition. Winning two awards for the ‘Best use of Technology and Innovation’ and ‘Company of the Year’.
A group of pupils from years 10 and 12, the ‘Llanw’ Team, created a recipe book called “Sbarion – Datrysiad i Wastraff”, which offers excellent ideas for using left-over food, in order to tackle the cost-of-living crisis as well as reducing the negative impact on the environment.
The book was published bilingually, but it also contains innovative developments. By clicking on the QR codes you can access various blogs produced by these pupils, which are updated from time to time where you can cook along with the pupils.
The Company Programme offers an opportunity over a period of at least 12 weeks for pupils to set up and run a business led by a Business Advisor or teacher. The pupils make all the decisions, from naming the company, budget management, and sales to the public. Those taking part receive practical business experience and key skills for the world of work. The company then gets to compete by: preparing a comprehensive business plan, be interviewed by a panel of judges and a presentation.
Following this success, the pupils will now go on to complete in the European round, which is held in Sicily in July. We hope that you all have your passports ready!
Clive Williams, Corporate Lead Officer for School Services said: “I am so pleased to hear about the amazing success of these your pupils. Ceredigion as a county, benefits so much from the enterprise and success of our small prosperous businesses, and it’s good to know that our next generation is continuing in this tradition and showing the whole world the skills, innovation and ability that these pupils have. I would also like to thank all the staff and parents that have supported and encouraged these pupils in this endeavour.”
