Energy Discounts and Other Grants

With the rising cost of energy, there are a number of government schemes and grants available to help people with their bills that you may qualify for such as the Warm Home Discount, the Winter Fuel Payment and the Cold Weather Payment.

Warm Home Discount

The Government's Warm Home Discount Scheme helps customers with their energy bills during the winter months. For the winter of 2022/2023 it has been increased to £150 and the eligibility criteria will be extended by almost a third and will benefit up to three million vulnerable households.

Winter Fuel Payment

The Winter Fuel Payment is a government grant between £100 and £300 for people born before 26 September 1958.

Cold Weather Payment

The Government's Cold Weather Payment is available if you receive certain benefits, and your area has suffered temperatures below 0 degrees for 7 consecutive days.

Energy Company Obligation (ECO)

The Government's Energy Company Obligation (ECO) can make a real difference to those living in poorly insulated homes. The ECO scheme is a government-backed initiative (regulated by Ofgem) to reduce carbon emissions and, in turn, lower heating bills for households that qualify for the scheme. Larger energy suppliers are legally obliged to install energy efficiency measures, such as insulation, first time central heating and draught proofing. Whether you are eligible for funding or not depends on a number of different factors. Check with your energy supplier to see if you can benefit from the scheme.

The Great British Insulation Scheme

The Great British Insulation Scheme is a new government scheme to help people insulate their homes, make them more energy efficient and save money on their energy bills. The scheme will run until March 2026. To check if you can receive support please visit the UK Government Apply for support from the Great British Insulation Scheme webpage.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme

Through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, you may be able to receive a grant contribution towards the cost of replacing a fossil fuel heating system (for example, an oil or gas system) with a heat pump or biomass boiler. Please visit the Government's Apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme page for further information on this scheme.
