Further Information

  • Route code e.g. 33/34 - this is the unique reference number for a any public right of way in the County and is the reference that should be used for any correspondence with the council. Please report any problems to clic@ceredigion.gov.uk
  • Stat_Text - this defines the legal status of a route i.e. footpath, bridleway etc. For definitions of status please view the main Definitive Map page
  • Category - due to the need the council to effectively use resources a prioritisation system approved by the Local Access Forum and outlined in the councils Rights of Way Improvement Plan has been adopted called the Primary Path Network:-
    • Category 1 paths - Strategic linear routes e.g. Coast Path & key promoted routes such as the Borth to Pontryhydfendigaid route which are open & available. Issues are graded and dealt with as per the Authorities standard specifications and risk assessments method detail
    • Category 2 paths - Routes that should be open & available although the standard of maintenance may be lower than a Category 1 route. Issues are graded and dealt with as per the Authorities standard specifications and risk assessments method detail
    • Category “2 Project” Paths - routes that are currently Category 0 routes, but have been confirmed as being of particular value having regard to the objectives of the Rights of Way Improvement Plan (ROWIP) and will be upgraded as and when resources to undertake capital and revenue works have been identified.
    • Category 0 paths - Routes that are not on the Primary Path Network. Issues are reviewed on a 6 monthly basis by the Local Authority and the Local Access Forum. Following review a path may be either amended to a category 2 path with the issue(s) placed on the Area Rangers work programme; remain as category 0 with landowners sent a letter to remind them of their statutory duties (if the issue is one the landowner is responsible for) or placed on a list to be added to the primary network when resources allow, again with the landowners receiving a letter to remind them of their statutory duties (if the issues is one the landowner is responsible for). The material considerations when deciding whether to bring a path onto the Primary Path Network are the objectives contained within the Council’s Rights of Way Improvement Plan, the availability and status of nearby routes and the strategic importance of the path in the context of the wider network

Please note that any route with no category number has not been categorised at this present time.

  • Ranger Area e.g. 1,2 or 3 = which Rangers Area the path falls within - for further info see our Ranger Area Maps
  • Promoted routes - AWCP= All Wales Coast Path
  • Length - this is defined in km
  • Community - i.e. Aberystwyth defines locality of the route
  • Community ref no - Modifications, CAMS number, Recno, Status are all for internal purposes
