Revitalising Aberystwyth Promenade – Funded by UK Government
What is this project?
Ceredigion County Council is pleased to update you on the progress of the revitalisation works on Aberystwyth Promenade. This significant initiative, funded by £10.8m from the UK Government, aims to transform Aberystwyth Promenade into a more accessible, attractive, and sustainable space for residents and visitors alike.
The overall regeneration initiative consists of two key projects: the revitalisation of Aberystwyth Promenade and the redevelopment of the Old College. While each project has its specific focus - improving public spaces and active travel routes along the promenade and transforming the Old College into a vibrant cultural hub - they both work together to enhance Aberystwyth's appeal as a place to live, work, study, and visit.
What will it achieve?
Regeneration at the Aberystwyth University’s Old College and Aberystwyth Promenade.
Here’s a summary of the two key projects:
Old College Project
In collaboration with Aberystwyth University, this project will complement and enhance the transformation of the Old College into a vibrant cultural hub. This includes the addition of new 4* accommodation, galleries, and exhibition spaces to improve the visitor experience.

Revitalised Promenade Project
Improvements will be made along the South Promenade, around the Old Harbour, and continuing to Riverside Terrace. This will offer residents and visitors safer and more enjoyable pedestrian and cycling routes, with upgrades to King Street, including new lighting, and enhanced access to the Castle grounds and Old College. The Revitalised Promenade project is due to be completed by summer 2025.
